A Century of Psi Research

Founded in 1919, L’Institut Métapsychique International (IMI) remains one of the few institutes in the world devoted to the scientific study of psi (aka, paranormal or psychical phenomena). Broadly speaking, psi encompasses effects such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition and psychokinesis. Located in Paris, France, the IMI has official status as a Fondation d'Utilité Publique in recognition of its dual role as both a valuable research institute and an institution of public education. The Institute maintains a rigorous, yet open, approach to its investigations of psi phenomena, without committing to any particular philosophical or religious position.

With the resources at its disposal, the IMI aspires to inform and assist interested researchers and students of all fields, the scientifically educated public and public institutions concerned with the integration of science and society. The IMI's mission for France is to reinvigorate a tradition of meaningful research and debate about psi, grounded in empirical study. The Institute thus offers a much-needed and rational alternative to unexamined credulity, on the one hand, and unwarranted skepticism, on the other.
